Playwright Showcase

Rochester Community Players presents the Inaugural Playwright Showcase October 9-13th, 2024. Ten local Rochester writers’ work read over the course of five days at Multi-Use Community Cultural Center(MuCCC), 142 Atlantic Avenue. Creating an opportunity for local writers to collaborate with directors, hear their plays read for an audience, and receive constructive feedback.

Synopsis: Tony and Jo have the same fight again and again–and in the process remember how to love each other better.

“Oxeye Daisy”

Synopsis: An actor at a university explores what it means for her body to be a vessel on and offstage, as well as the consequences that follow.

“We Are The Volcano”

Synopsis: The climate is changing. Will we? We Are the Volcano explores possible futures in the wake of climate change through a series of short, interconnected, magical realist plays. By turns stark and humorous, the allegorical theatre piece navigates the perils of a warming planet.

Synopsis: A retelling of the story of the Pied Piper of Hamlin, from five points of view.

Synopsis:  Short monologues and scenes on various themes including: art, enlightenment, transcendence, illness, and more.

“The Abominable History of the Man with Copper Fingers”

Synopsis: An adaptation of the Dorothy L. Sayers short story, an obsessive sculptor welcomes a Hollywood film star into his home, with disastrous consequences for all involved.

“We Built Our Castles”

Synopsis: Walter has built up walls around himself his whole life so we could not be hurt by others. The only problem is Pembroke, his wife, wants to be let in.

“Cruel”

Synopsis: When Oscar stays with his sister Florence and her wife Beth, he learns some very odd rules in this house, such as the way they talk about Angelica, an ordinary umbrella that Beth nurtures as if it is a baby.
