On Monday, April 20
the Geva Mainstage was filled with the largest collection of local
performing arts organizations ever assembled in Rochester history in TheatreROCS Spring '09! We participated in the event: the Shakespeare Players program of the Rochester Community Players presented a short scene from our upcomming Summer Shakespeare at the Bowl production of Hamlet, featuring James Heath as Hamlet. RCP President peter Scribner also conducted the live auction during the event. Over $10,000 was raised during the event, including over $2,300 at the live auction.
In addition to RCP, TheatreROCS Spring 2009 featured presentations by Blackfriars
Theatre, Bristol Valley Theatre, Downstairs Cabaret Theatre, Geomantics
Dance Theater, JCC CenterStage, Mercury Opera Rochester, Off-Monroe
Players, Out of Pocket Productions, Penfield Players, Pittsford
Musicals, PUSH Physical Theatre, RAPA,
Unleashed! Improv and Village Idiots. These groups will present a festive showcase of musical theatre, dance, drama and comedy on the Geva Mainstage directed by JCC's Ralph Meranto. 13 WHAM's Norma Holland
was emcee for the event.
Proceeds benefit the promotion of local area
theaters, including RCP. Community organizations find that their biggest
hurdle and expenditure is advertising and promotion and the members of
TheatreROCS are committed to combining forces to collectively promote
and support each other's work.
